HAWAI'I ~ The Big Island
This island is the home of Pele, the powerful goddess who is the keeper of fire. Mauna Loa, the world's largest active volcano, and Kilauea, the world's most active volcano are both here.

Walking across the lava flows and traversing huge craters, one cannot help but feel the power of Pele, and respect the immense destructive power of these active volcanoes. As we hiked on the "Desolation Trail", we could feel the heat through the soles of our hiking boots.

Touring the Big
Island is a wonderful way of stepping back in time
to get an impression of what these islands must have been like
before
they were affected by outside influences.

The image of the
petroglyphs above is a negative -
although the petroglyphs are very clearly seen with the eye, they
were indistinct in the photograph.
