KAUA'I ~ The Garden Isle

Our good friends Glen and Daphne reserved a time-share week in Kapa'a, Kaua'i
right after Thanksgiving 1996. We spent the prior week touring Oahu,
with Bill and I absorbing as much of their birdwatching knowledge and experience as possible.

We spent one day touring the Napali Coast by boat.
The excursion included a side trip into a cavern with a waterfall,
viewing spinner dolphins (which are much to fast to photograph), and snorkeling.

There are many beautiful waterfalls on Kauai.

Monk seals are endangered, but are quite at home on the beaches of Kauai.
The one in the photograph below was working its way in to shore for a nap.
When it came onto the beach, the entire area was cleared of people until the seal decided to leave.

Kaua'i is famous for Waimea Canyon, known as the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific"
and also boasts of being home to the reputed "wettest place on earth", Wai'ale'ale Crater.
